Accessible Instrument and Technology Library
DMS has developed this library to allow schools to hire a range of accessible and adaptable instruments for use in lessons. The aim of this library is for every young person to have access to instruments and technology that fuels their interests and meets their abilities and needs.
It is also a resource for teachers to ensure they are able to use accessible instruments and technology effectively in both curriculum and instrumental teaching contexts.
The library is designed to be;
- Comprehensive – meeting the full range of needs found in both mainstream and specialist settings, including alternative provision.
- Responsive – The library has been developed in partnership with subject matter experts and teachers across Dorset.
- Useable by all – Resources are accessible to both specialist music teachers and generalist classroom teachers.
Instruments are hired through Nexus alongside other DMS services, and are subject to a hire agreement.
You can then investigate each instrument further below. Email dorsetmusicservice@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk with any questions, including if you need any items to support the below e.g. classroom speakers.
Clarion Music App
This is an app that you can use on your school’s iPads. DMS may have a limited supply of iPads to hire as well, but it is best if your school has iPads for this application.
The Clarion® is a game-changing musical instrument that’s expressive like traditional instruments but also highly accessible. It’s already the instrument of choice for thousands of disabled musicians across the UK including National Open Youth Orchestra and Open Orchestras players.
The Clarion also opens up creative music-making to players who don’t read music and supports therapeutic self-expression. It’s now available for volume purchase through our music education programmes.
You can try the free version, and DMS have full licences for you to hire to increase access and provide the full Clarion experience.
